A day in the life of Papa Mike the Fairy.
The suns not up but I’m eager to get my Red Wing boots laced up and off to work.
My first task is to make sure the coffee is perked so when the coffee early birds and the ladies bridge group comes they are well caffeinated. I then get busy making donuts and pastries for the bakery. Making sure to have the scones ready by 6am for the young man who’s off to work and stops in daily. As I work on the donuts I make sure to do one plain for Bob, one with peanuts for Joe , and the cinnamon roll with extra frosting for Linda. As I work I make a mess of every container and get frosting on everything. If I have time I make myself a peanut butter and butter sandwich from an outdated loaf of bread. Once I have things baking and have timers set I head up to the office to start getting registers open and going. Making sure to keep an eye out for any customers that come in.
The rest of the day is busy filling whatever work needs to be tended to.
Bagging groceries for customers, taking floral deliveries, catering a funeral or a wedding, fixing the toilet, facing the shelves, making brats or smoked meat, fixing a cooler, peeling potatoes, washing dishes, plowing snow, delivering school milk, skinning deer and any other task that needs to be filled. If I’m lucky I get to mow the lawn with my John Deere lawn mower.
I spend a lot of time at the store but it is really is my home. I was raised by my family ,Don and Charlotte, in our family owned store and I have raised my children and now my grandchildren in the same family business. I love coming to work everyday and seeing all the familiar faces. Being a part of such a great community that helps make me and the store what it is. I love giving back to our community, especially our schools and sports. I loved watching my children and now my grandchildren play football, softball, volleyball, baseball and my favorite basketball. GO CARDS!
When the sun sets as I leave the store I think back on the days work and start planning for tomorrow’s adventures. I drive home in my 200,000 mile plus rusted up white Chevy delivery van. Come in the door, take off my Red Wing boots, Head to the fridge and microwave a couple hotdogs to finish off a good days work.
Love,
Your Grandkids
